Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing a letter regarding the feedback of our last all-day meeting at your hotel that my all team member like the place that you organized but they did not like the food which your team served us.

We organized an all-day meeting at your venue last sunday. My all india participants were coming to your hotel for stay and they were liked your hotel venue and place and all kind of service you provided at their stay in your hotel. However, they did not like their food and i recieved a lot of complaints about food which was served by your hotel. Moreover, many colleagues were complaints about curry which was not spicy and it looked like 2 days before. Also, they were not happy with roti that it was not easily chewable.

In addition to this, I personally suggest that you are capable to improve your food taste and quality of roti and all things. We liked your facility and i kindly request to you should change your menu and improve food quality in future so we will carryf forward our next meeting in your hotel. Thank You.

Your faithfully,

Prayag Patel

Manager of company

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points in the task: you say participants liked the hotel and its services, explain their complaints about the curry and roti, and ask the manager to improve the menu and food quality. The specific comments that the curry was “not spicy” and seemed “2 days before” help make the dissatisfaction clear. However, the positive feedback is less fully explained, and the proposed improvements remain general: “improve your food taste and quality” does not specify practical steps such as preparing meals fresh or checking spice preferences. The purpose is clear, but the letter would be more complete if each point were developed with similarly specific detail and the request were expressed more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a recognisable structure: an opening purpose, a paragraph describing the meeting and feedback, and a closing request. This gives the reader a generally clear progression, and linking phrases such as “However” and “In addition to this” help connect ideas. To make the organisation more effective, separate the participants’ positive comments from the food complaints, then give the proposed improvements in a focused final paragraph. Some connections are awkward or repetitive, particularly the opening sentence, which combines the purpose and several ideas in one long sentence. Clearer paragraph focus and more precise referencing would make the flow smoother and less dependent on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “participants,” “complaints,” “menu,” and “food quality.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less natural. For example, “my all team member” and “all india participants” are unclear, while “they were complaints” uses the wrong form. “It looked like 2 days before” does not clearly express that the curry seemed old, and “carryf forward our next meeting” is difficult to understand. Aim for precise, natural phrases such as “all the team members,” “participants from across India,” and “the curry seemed to have been prepared two days earlier.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can generally follow the letter’s main message. However, control is inconsistent, especially in longer sentences. For example, “my all team member like the place that you organized” has problems with word order, agreement, and sentence construction; “they were liked your hotel” uses an incorrect verb form; and “I kindly request to you should change” combines incompatible patterns. There are also tense and punctuation issues, such as “last sunday” and the long opening sentence. Use shorter, complete sentences when expressing several points, and practise reliable request forms such as “I kindly ask you to improve…” alongside accurate past-tense reporting.
