Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

my purpose of writing this letter to you is about a collective summary of feedback of our participants. Recently we had a meeting at your hotel and it went throughout the day. I gathered feedbacks of our participants at the meeting to know how they liked and treated at the meeting. I am glad to inform you that they all love the hotel overall, but yet i would say they were quite disheartened with the food serve to them.

First of all I would began with the great reviews i got from them about the hotel. To be specific they praised the decorum and the entrance of the hotel a lot. the services and the sanity around the premises where outstanding. They mentioned how nice and elegantly the interior was designed and structured which enhanced the vibe and excitement among the participants.

Although, to be fair about their reviews, I got alot of them complained about the food that was serve to them during the meeting. Most of them were regarding the temperature of the food, it was too cold to be served and the chapati that were serve were too hard to chew because of temperatue.

Addition to that I would like to suggest that please have make some arrangement of food warmers during the preparation of the food, so that it keeps the food warm when guest are helping themselves in the buffet. Overall, it was really good to be their and your team's service and hospitality was beyond comparison.

Thanking You

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points and maintain an appropriately polite tone. You identify what participants liked—especially the hotel’s décor, entrance, interior and service—and explain that the lunch was too cold, with chapatis that were hard to chew. The suggestion to use food warmers is relevant and practical. This meets the task well, but some points are less fully developed: for example, you could explain whether the food was cold because it was prepared too early or not kept warm, and suggest a broader improvement such as checking serving temperatures or offering a varied menu. A clearer, more direct opening and a more specific request to the manager would make the purpose and proposed action more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with the purpose, moves to positive feedback, then describes the complaint and offers a solution. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “First of all” and “Addition to that” signal progression. However, some linking is mechanical or awkward, and a few references are unclear. For instance, “Although, to be fair about their reviews” does not connect smoothly to the previous paragraph, while “it” in “so that it keeps the food warm” could refer to the arrangement rather than the food. Use simpler, more natural transitions and make each paragraph’s central point explicit. This would make the progression more consistently smooth.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the letter, including relevant terms such as “participants,” “premises,” “interior,” “temperature” and “hospitality.” Some choices also show an attempt to be precise, such as describing the food as “too cold” and the chapatis as “too hard to chew.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “feedbacks,” “decorum,” “sanity around the premises,” “food serve” and “beyond comparison” do not express the intended meanings naturally. There are also spelling errors, including “alot” and “temperatue.” These do not prevent understanding, but more accurate collocations and careful proofreading would improve control and flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including the clause “so that it keeps the food warm,” and the main message remains understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, sentence boundaries and capitalisation occur across the letter. Examples include “my purpose of writing this letter to you is about,” “I would began,” “the food that was serve,” and “the chapati that were serve.” The sentence beginning “Most of them were regarding…” is also incomplete, and several sentences begin with lowercase letters after a full stop. Practise forming complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement and past participles. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside your attempts at complex sentences, would strengthen the writing.
