Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to inform you that recently I was held an all day meting where participants gave their views on our hotel.

All the participants mostly liked the atmosphere and cleaningness of the hotel. They all praised the things like oranization of the rooms, proper sitting at the entrance and the staff of the hotel. They feel like their home vibes.

All the things were good but on the other hand they were unhappy about the food. They said that the food not served in proper way and the taste was not good. Some dishes were very spicy and mostly they found the problem in main course.

I am suggesting some ideas that improve the review about our hotel.Firstly we need to hire some new chefs. If they cook well it improve the taste of the food and some one always their to check on the kitchen and check all the dishes before serve to the people.Secondly,we have to make a meeting of the waiters and trained them how they will serve the food.

Yours faithfully,

Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points in the task: you mention the hotel’s atmosphere, room organisation, seating and staff; explain that the food was poorly presented, tasted unsatisfactory and was too spicy; and propose hiring chefs and training waiters. These details make the letter relevant and its purpose clear. Some points, however, are less fully developed: for example, “They feel like their home vibes” does not clearly explain what guests appreciated, and the suggestions focus more on staffing and service than on how the menu or seasoning should change. To strengthen the response, explain the positive features more precisely and connect each proposed action directly to the food complaints. The next step is fuller, clearer development of every point, while retaining this complete task coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with its purpose, gives positive feedback, turns to the lunch problem, and ends with recommendations. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and “on the other hand” signals the contrast between the hotel and the food. Some links are mechanical or unclear, however. “All the things were good” is a broad transition, while “Firstly” and “Secondly” introduce suggestions without making their relationship to the specific complaints fully explicit. The reference in “They feel like their home vibes” is also difficult to interpret. For stronger progression, use clearer links between each complaint and its solution, and make references to participants and hotel features precise. The organisation is sound, but cohesion is not yet consistently flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “atmosphere,” “participants,” “main course,” and “hire some new chefs.” However, noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce precision and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “meting,” “cleaningness,” “oranization,” “proper sitting,” and “home vibes”; these are not natural or accurate choices for a formal hotel letter. Phrases such as “the food not served in proper way” also show that the intended meaning is expressed with limited control of suitable wording. Build a more reliable range of common formal expressions for describing facilities, food quality and service. More accurate collocations and spelling would make your message clearer and more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response uses mostly simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to combine ideas, such as “If they cook well it improve the taste of the food.” These attempts show an effort to express cause and recommendation, but control is limited: “I was held an all day meting” has an incorrect verb construction, “They said that the food not served” is missing an auxiliary, and “it improve” does not agree with its subject. Articles and sentence punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “in proper way” and the run-on spacing around several full stops. These errors sometimes make sentences harder to process, although the overall message remains understandable. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and complete clauses, then add complex structures only when you can control their verb forms and punctuation.
