Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my dissatisfaction with the food served at your hotel at my company's meeting on October 30. Although everyone was really satisfied with parking facilities and infrastructure.
Meeting had total 30 guests, and after few days all employees were requested to rate and review arrangements made in the last meeting. This consequently resulted that, people really appreciated staff service and parking facilites, however disliked the food. Upon investigating further, it was concluded that food quality was not fresh and also while we clearly instructed that food should not be spicy, it was found to be really spicy.
This meeting has some of the reputated companies with which our team was planning to collaborate with, whereas, dissatisfaction in food service, disappointed them. This might as well affect our company's goodwill. Therefore, I would request you that from next time it should be made sure all instructions are properly carried out and some serious apologies from the company must be taken.
I hope you will address this concern as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,
Rasanpreet Jaura

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you mention that participants appreciated the staff service and parking, explain that the food was stale and too spicy despite instructions, and ask for better compliance in future. The complaint is relevant and its impact on your company’s reputation is made clear. The positive feedback could be more specific, however, since the task asks what participants liked about the hotel and you give only two brief details. Your proposed improvement is also somewhat general: “make sure all instructions are properly carried out” does not explain how the hotel could improve food quality or prevent the spice issue. The request for “serious apologies” is unclear as a practical recommendation. More developed, specific suggestions would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a recognisable structure: it opens with the purpose, gives the meeting feedback, explains the consequences, and closes with a request. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and connectors such as “Although,” “however,” and “Therefore” show relationships between ideas. Some links are awkward or unclear, though. “This consequently resulted that” does not connect the review process to its outcome naturally, and “This meeting has some of the reputated companies” makes the reference difficult to follow. The opening “Although everyone was really satisfied…” is also left as an incomplete thought before the next paragraph. Use clearer transitions and ensure each paragraph develops one complete, connected point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “dissatisfaction,” “appreciated,” “quality,” and “goodwill.” These choices communicate the main concerns, and “not fresh” and “really spicy” make the food problems understandable. There are also attempts at more formal or less common wording, such as “consequently” and “collaborate,” but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “infrastructure” is vague for the hotel features guests liked, “reputated companies” is not the appropriate expression, and “serious apologies” does not convey a clear request. Spelling errors such as “facilites” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural collocations suited to a business letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the contrast beginning “Although” and the clause “while we clearly instructed…”. The main message remains understandable, but some sentence structures are incomplete or faulty. “Although everyone was really satisfied with parking facilities and infrastructure” is a dependent clause without a main clause. “Meeting had total 30 guests” is missing an article, while “This consequently resulted that” uses an incorrect grammatical pattern. There are also tense and agreement problems in “This meeting has some…” and “some serious apologies… must be taken.” Review articles, clause completion, and verb patterns, then check that each sentence has a clear subject and a correctly formed main verb.
