Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Manager,
I am writing this regarding the service that our company employees recieved throught the all-day meeting in your hotel. Emplyees like the hotel building but unfortunately, they were not appreciating the meals that were served.
Firstly, I would like to appreciate the arrangements provided by hotel staff for our business conference meeting. Especially, meeting room, sound system, and stage. which was beautifully decorated according to the formal meeting atmosphere.
Moving to the food service, which made employees unhappy the most. Primarily, the food service was behind the time and everybody was waiting from so long. Apart from this the chicken entrees was not cooked properly and portion of the food was not enough to mitigate the hunger of normal person as per plate.
No doubt that your hotel is meeting the hospitality requirements, but it would be appreciated, if you pay attention on the culinery department to meeting the customer expections.
Yours faithfully,
Deep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You cover the main points by praising the meeting facilities, explaining that lunch was late and that the chicken and portions were unsatisfactory, and asking the hotel to improve its food service. However, the final request is quite general: “pay attention on the culinery department” does not clearly say what practical changes you want, such as serving lunch on schedule or checking food quality and portion sizes. The positive feedback is also focused mainly on the room and equipment rather than explaining what participants liked about the hotel more broadly. Develop these points with specific, courteous requests and make the participants’ views explicit to address every part of the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: an opening summary, positive comments, complaints about lunch, and a closing recommendation. Paragraphing helps the reader follow this progression, and signposts such as “Firstly” and “Moving to the food service” make the shifts clear. This organisation is effective, though some linking is mechanical and a few sentence boundaries interrupt the flow. For example, “Especially, meeting room, sound system, and stage. which was beautifully decorated” separates a list from the clause that explains it. Connect related ideas into complete sentences and use references such as “these facilities” to avoid abrupt transitions. The final paragraph could also link the specific complaints to the requested improvements more directly.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a formal complaint, including “arrangements,” “business conference,” “portion,” and “hospitality requirements.” These choices communicate the main concerns, and the tone is generally appropriate. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice or collocation problems that make the letter less natural, such as “recieved,” “throught,” “culinery,” and “customer expections.” Phrases including “mitigate the hunger” and “meeting the customer expectations” are also awkward in this context. Aim for precise, natural expressions for service complaints, and proofread spelling carefully. More accurate collocations would make your points clearer and help the formal register sound consistent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the overall meaning is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with sentence boundaries, agreement, articles, and prepositions. For instance, “which was beautifully decorated” is left as a fragment after the list, while “the chicken entrees was” has a subject–verb agreement error. “Pay attention on” also uses an incorrect preposition, and “portion of the food was not enough” needs a more complete article and noun structure. Use complete sentences and check that verbs agree with their subjects. Varying sentence patterns is a useful start, but more accurate control of these structures is needed for the message to read smoothly.
