There are some reasons behind this trend. First of all, most of the people have sedentary lifestyle nowadays. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for lack of exercise and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as sedentary office work and the suggestion of government-led exercise programs. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the example regarding the university survey is vague and lacks clear integration into the argument. While the position is clear, the essay would benefit from more detailed explanations and specific examples to fully explore the implications of the sedentary lifestyle mentioned. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task but remains at a general level of discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for reasons and solutions, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First of all', 'Furthermore', and 'To put everything in a nutshell'. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To explain it more' and the repetitive use of 'some' to introduce points. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the flow between sentences could be improved to create a more natural progression of ideas. The referencing is generally clear, though the structure of the final paragraph is slightly disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'people', 'exercise', and 'jobs'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'sedentary lifestyle', 'hectic schedule', and 'physical activity', there are minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'bones related issues' instead of 'bone-related issues' and 'avoid to use' instead of 'avoid using'. The range is sufficient to communicate the main points, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or sophistication required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('Number of people', 'A university students'), subject-verb agreement issues, and awkward phrasing ('which makes easy for all persons to go their'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are instances of unnecessary spaces and minor errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The student demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but control over these is inconsistent.
