Student answer (Band 6.5)

There are significant number of working people who fail to do exercises during their working days or in their free time, and end up having severe health problems like obesity, fatty liver, diabetes, etc. Lifestyle diseases are common nowadays in all age groups, and this is due to lack of exercise and not following healthy eating habits. The major reasons why they miss their daily exercises are laziness, working off hours, improper time management, work pressure and lack of proper awareness in health hygiene. In this essay, we will discuss broadly on how to resolve this and live a healthier life.

On the one hand, people who works don't have enough time nowadays due to their work pressure. Many of them are forced to work on their off hours and this gradually made them lazy in their life, and these people will not only refrain from doing exercises, but also in lack energy in doing their daily tasks like cooking, playing etc. They eat outside and come to bed after work. For example, I was a warehouse manager before and I often work more than my regular hours. As a result, I stopped going to my gym and started having severe health issues like depression, overweight and fatty liver. I had to quit my job to come out of it and had to start everything from the beginning.

Another reason is lack of time management, which common mostly in people who are young age. They spend most of their time in shopping outside, eat junk foods or immerse themselves in travelling. Finally, lack of awareness in health and hygiene and not following a balanced diet will make people more tired in their life. However, there are many who follow all these and live a healthier life.

To conclude, people who works get little to no exercise either during their working or in their free times are generally due to their laziness, not managing their time properly, pressure due to work or working without any rest, and lack of their awareness in health and hygiene. Only resolution to this is by taking proper breaks from any task that they are doing, following proper diet, taking good sleep whenever needed.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as work pressure and time management. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The personal example of the warehouse manager is a good touch, but the solutions provided in the conclusion are brief and lack depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'what can be done' section with more specific, actionable strategies beyond just 'taking breaks' or 'sleeping well'. The position is clear, but the overall development could be more balanced between the two questions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'For example', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'there are many who follow all these' in the third paragraph, which could be more explicitly linked to the previous point about healthy habits. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'lifestyle diseases', 'fatty liver', and 'time management'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'lack awareness in health hygiene' (should be 'lack of awareness regarding health and hygiene') and 'working off hours' (typically 'working overtime'). While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing like 'in their life' or 'in their time'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people who works' instead of 'people who work') and article usage (e.g., 'in lack energy' instead of 'lack energy'). There are also issues with prepositions and word forms, such as 'young age' instead of 'a young age'. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your accuracy.
