Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is undeniable that people nowadays are not getting enough time for exercise and as a result, they have health problems. In this essay, I will explain why many working people do not get enough exercise and the possible solutions for this problem.

To begin with, there are a plethora of reasons why many working people do not get enough exercise. The first and foremost reason is that people are already tired and exhausted due to work. Thus, they need to rest and do not get enough time for the exercise. Another reason can be excessive use of smartphone. As we know, people are wasting their time scrolling through social media. Therefore, they almost spend their free time in watching phones. For example, an average usage of Instagram is around four to five hours and, working people do this then they will not any time for exercise.

However, there are some steps to tackle this problem. Firstly, individuals need to make a proper schedule of their daily life routine so that they can make a time for the exercise. Apart from that, people need to use phone as much low as possible because mobile phones are the primary reason why people are not getting enough time. Sometimes people spend two to three hours in travelling. If they move nearby work area or use other mode of transportation which lower their travel time, they can get enough time for the exercise. Hence, these are the possible solution to get some time for exercise.

To conclude, people are not getting enough time due to tiredness from the work, using too much social media and more travel time. However, people can make a proper schedule, use less smart phone and try to make less travel time so that they can get enough time for the exercise.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for inactivity and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as work-related exhaustion, smartphone usage, and commuting time. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion to 'use phone as much low as possible' is a bit simplistic and lacks depth. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting examples (like the Instagram usage statistic) are a bit anecdotal and could be more effectively integrated to fully explore the implications. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more detailed explanations or broader societal context.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'However,' and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'people' is used frequently as the subject). The transition between the problem of commuting and the proposed solution could be smoother. Overall, the structure is clear, but the range of cohesive devices could be more varied to improve the natural flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your ideas clearly. You use some good phrases like 'plethora of reasons' and 'tackle this problem.' However, there are instances of awkward phrasing or imprecise word choices, such as 'use phone as much low as possible' and 'make a time for the exercise.' These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a need for more precise collocations and a wider range of vocabulary to express complex ideas more naturally. Focusing on word forms and common collocations will help improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips throughout the text, such as 'they will not any time' (missing verb), 'use phone as much low as possible' (incorrect comparative structure), and 'make less travel time' (unnatural collocation). Punctuation is generally correct, but there are minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining your use of comparative structures and modal verbs to add variety and accuracy to your complex sentences.
