Student answer (Band 7.0)

In today's fast growing world earning money has become a very crucial part of many people and most of the people spend a lot of time working to earn their bread and butter. Because of a hectic work schedules it has become very difficult for people to focus on their physical health and has lead to a rise in health problems amongst working class people.

One of the reasons why working people are not able to get enough exercise is that most of the working people follow a very rigorous work schedule and spend more than half of their day at work which makes it really hard to spare time for exercise. Another major reason is that at the end of the day after working for long hours and spending additional time for commuting to and from work people are exhausted and prefer to go home and rest rather than exercising.

One way this problem can be tackled is by following a proper routine which includes exercising at least 3 times a week. People can exercise at home by watching You tube videos or doing yoga at home. People can also purchase some basic gym equipments like dumbbells and use them to work out at home which can save them the time to commute to a gym making it easier for people with busy schedules to exercise. For example initially when I started working full time I found it very difficult to exercise daily so I stared preparing my meal for whole week in advance. This help me save time from cooking everyday and I was able to spare time to exercise after finishing work.

In conclusion I would like to say that it is difficult to take out time to exercise from our busy schedules but with proper planning, discipline and guidance it is possible to maintain a healthy lifestyle in today's busy world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. The first paragraph introduces the issue, the second explains the causes (long hours and exhaustion), and the third provides practical solutions (home workouts and time management). The personal example provided is relevant and supports the argument well. To reach a higher band, the development of ideas could be more extensive; for instance, discussing the role of employers or government policy in promoting workplace health would add more depth and sophistication to the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central focus, and the transition between the problem and the solution is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the reasons', 'Another major reason', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and basic. To improve, you could incorporate a wider variety of linking words and phrases to create a more sophisticated flow between sentences and paragraphs, rather than relying on standard introductory phrases.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'hectic work schedules', 'rigorous', and 'maintain a healthy lifestyle'. The meaning is consistently clear throughout the essay. However, the vocabulary is somewhat functional and lacks the precision or 'less common' lexical items that characterize higher bands. There are also minor issues with word choice, such as 'earning money has become a very crucial part of many people' (should be 'part of many people's lives') and 'lead to a rise' (should be 'led to a rise'). Expanding your range of collocations would improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'has lead to' should be 'has led to', 'a hectic work schedules' should be 'hectic work schedules', and 'This help me' should be 'This helped me'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but some sentences would benefit from better comma usage to improve readability. To achieve a higher band, you should aim for more error-free complex sentences and ensure consistent subject-verb agreement and tense usage.
