Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the discussion on long working hours and the financial burden of gym memberships. However, the development is occasionally repetitive, and some arguments, such as the government setting fee limits, lack a degree of practical realism, which slightly impacts the depth of the analysis. The position is clear throughout, and the response maintains a consistent focus on the topic, meeting the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'Firstly', and 'Furthermore', to guide the reader through the arguments. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences feels slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the mention of celebrities and the conclusion of that paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be more sophisticated to improve the overall progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific language like 'physical activity', 'subsidize', and 'daunting task'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'get rare time' instead of 'have little time' and 'these type of people' instead of 'this type of person'. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Many people wants', 'this centers is high') and article usage ('membership of many gyms', 'in cities gym'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in spacing and comma usage. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band for grammatical control.
