Student answer (Band 6.0)

Exercises play an important role in human physical and mental well being. Nowadays, people’s perspective regarding physical activities has changed dramatically,

They prefer to sit and relax after long busy day. This essay will discuss the reasons of these changes and what are the solutions to these challenges.

People become more busier and their schedules are more hectic due to two compelling reasons.

First and foremost, their priority is to help their families. To explain more, due to financial instability they tend to work more hours to buy their essential goods. According to a recent study, the Lebanese workers work for more than 10 hours a day to buy basic necessities. In addition, some employees avoid to do some sport activities to prevent injury. In other words, they protect themselves to stay productive and keep them healthy. According to a journal, the rate of injuries at gyms have increased by twenty per cent due to unqualified trainers.

To overcome these obstacles there are multiple solutions.

Firstly, government should increase awareness regarding doing exercises and how physical activities can improve the productivity and their focus. Moreover, companies should increase the wages for workers to help them find time to look after their mental and physical well being.

In conclusion, people prioritized to work most of the time to help their families and they shift to do some mental rather than physical activities. Which increase the cardiovascular events. For those reasons, Government and companies should find solutions to overcome these difficulties that affect their health.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation regarding financial instability is relevant, but the point about gym injuries is less convincing as a primary reason for the general population's lack of exercise. The solutions provided—government awareness and increased wages—are logical but could be expanded with more detail or specific examples to reach a higher band. The position is clear, but the overall depth of the argument is somewhat superficial, keeping it at a mid-level band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'In addition', and 'To overcome these obstacles' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'Which' at the start of a sentence in the conclusion, which creates a fragment. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more fluid to improve the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'financial instability', 'cardiovascular events', and 'physical activities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'people become more busier' (a double comparative error) and 'avoid to do some sport activities' (should be 'avoid doing'). The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the writing. Examples include 'Exercises play' (should be 'Exercise plays'), 'people become more busier' (incorrect comparative form), and 'the rate of injuries at gyms have increased' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with sentence fragments. While these errors do not prevent communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score to a 5.5.
