Student answer (Band 7.5)
Many people who work full-time do not get enough physical exercise, either during working hours or in their leisure time. As a result, they are more likely to suffer health problems such as obesity, heart disease, and stress. This essay will discuss the reasons of this issue and suggest possible solutions.
One of the main reasons why working people fail to exercise is that many jobs are now desk-based. Employees often spend eight or nine hours sitting in front of computers with very little movement. After a long and tiring day at work, many people feel exhausted and prefer to relax by watching television or using their smartphones instead of engaging in physical activities. Furthermore, busy work schedules and family responsibilities leave them with limited time to visit a gym or participate in sports.
Several measures can be taken to encourage people to become more phatically active. Employers should promote a healthier workplace by providing fitness facilities, organizing exercise workshops, or encourage staff to take short walking breaks during the day. Governments can also play an important role by investing in public sports facilities, cycling lanes, and parks to make exercise more convenient and accessible. In addition, individuals should recognize the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and make exercise a part of their daily routine, even if it is only a 30-minutes walk. They can do some basic exercises in the morning while getting ready or before going to the bed in the evening.
In conclusion, the lack of exercise among working is mainly caused by busy jobs schedules and lifestyles. However, with support from employers, governments, and individuals themselves, this problem can be reduced, leading to a healthier and more productive lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt effectively. You clearly identify the reasons for the lack of exercise, such as sedentary desk jobs and exhaustion, and provide logical solutions involving employers, governments, and personal responsibility. The ideas are well-developed and supported with relevant examples. The position is clear throughout the essay, and the structure is balanced. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific, real-world examples (e.g., mentioning specific types of workplace wellness programs) to further extend your arguments and demonstrate a deeper level of critical thinking.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the causes and solutions is smooth. You use a range of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion'. The paragraphing is appropriate, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a summary. The flow of information is natural, and the relationship between sentences is easy to follow. There are no significant issues with referencing or cohesion, making the text very readable.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'sedentary desk-based', 'physical activities', and 'maintaining a healthy lifestyle' are used correctly. There is a minor error in the word 'phatically' (likely a typo for 'physically'), and 'lack of exercise among working' is slightly awkward; it would be better as 'lack of exercise among working people'. Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is generally accurate and appropriate for the context of the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You use complex sentences effectively, such as 'After a long and tiring day at work, many people feel exhausted and prefer to relax...'. While there are a few minor grammatical errors, such as 'before going to the bed' (should be 'before going to bed') and 'productive lives' (should be 'a productive life'), these do not impede communication. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation is generally strong.
