Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as long commutes and competitive work environments, and the solutions provided, including workplace initiatives and government campaigns, are practical. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat brief. While the main points are clear, they could be further extended with more detailed examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout, and the response covers all requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main questions. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the comma splice in the third paragraph: '...breaks from their work, they can also do...'. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'sedentary lifestyle', 'competitive world', and 'physically exhausted'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'may left with no free time' (should be 'may be left') and 'cautions' (should be 'cautious'). To improve, the student should aim for more precise and varied vocabulary to express complex ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('tight timelines makes', 'employers can motivates') and tense/passive voice errors ('may left with no free time', 'if individuals are aware about'). These errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher score, although they do not impede communication. Increasing the accuracy of complex structures and proofreading for basic agreement errors would significantly improve the score.
