Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. The introduction clearly outlines the essay's purpose, and the body paragraphs provide logical explanations supported by examples, such as the reference to the Canadian Health Department survey. However, some points, such as the impact of technology, could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout, and the response effectively answers the prompt's requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two main questions. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'To commence with', 'To expound', and 'To recapitulate', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, although there are minor issues with sentence-level flow, such as the sentence starting with 'Due to which', which is a fragment. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use less common items like 'elucidate', 'mitigate', and 'plausible'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'working class people' (which usually refers to socioeconomic status rather than just 'employees') and 'at door-step' (should be 'at their doorstep'). While the range is sufficient, more precise and natural collocations would elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For instance, 'since due the increase' is redundant and grammatically incorrect, and 'canteen's at offices' contains an unnecessary apostrophe. There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement, such as 'a of the plausible solutions'. Despite these errors, the reader is rarely confused, and the writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, even if they are not always perfectly accurate.
