Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is true that many working people do not have sufficient time to do exercise either during the weekdays or on the weekends ,which creates many health issues.

One of the main reasons workers do not get proper exercise is due to their work patterns. Working people normally start their work early and finish it late, which makes them significantly exhausted. Then, they want to relax and unwind themselves during their spare time rather than doing any kinds of activities. When people spend their whole time at workplace to complete their deadlines and meet their targets, giving them pressure and unwanted stress. Therefore, people are left with no energy to do anything, they just simply want to lay down and enjoy their favorite shows.

However, many things can be done to overcome with this problem. First of all, employers should offer remote work options to their employees, so that they can save their travel time and they can use that time to perform any other tasks or spend their free time with the family. It will be considerably beneficial for working people. Also, there should be a strict time limit in working hours daily, so they do not have to stay till late at work and they can follow a balanced timetable to do self-care.

In conclusion, although many working people have a very little time to do the exercise due to their demanding job, it can be improved if some possible measures is taken by the company. By offering telecommuting options and setting up a strict work schedule can highly improve this situation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as work patterns causing exhaustion and the suggestion of remote work. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why people do not exercise could be more deeply explored with specific examples beyond just 'exhaustion'. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, restating the points rather than synthesising them. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed reasoning or illustrative examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for reasons and solutions, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First of all', 'Also', and 'In conclusion', which help the flow. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the fragment 'giving them pressure and unwanted stress' in the second paragraph, which lacks a clear subject. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, but the use of linking words could be more varied and sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'telecommuting' and 'unwind'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'overcome with this problem' (should be 'overcome this problem') and 'perform any other tasks' (which is slightly vague in this context). The range is sufficient for the task, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'some possible measures is taken' should be 'are taken', and 'unwind themselves' is slightly unnatural. There are also punctuation errors, such as the spacing around the comma in the first sentence. The control of complex structures is inconsistent, and while the errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
