Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the current societal landscape people have stopped giving exercise the importance that they should give, it is a phenomenon that is commonly witnessed among diverse population. It is contend that number of working professional does not get time to exercise which leads to many health problems.

In my perspective, I am inclined to support the proportion as it hold potential benefits that can be realized upon the implementation. For instance, every organization should either have gyms in their buildings or provide their staff with free gym memberships to motivate them to work out which will not only improve their health physically but also mentally.

However, sitting on the chair for hours of work leads to bad posture as well as backbone injury.

On the other hand, it is true that making employees exercise during office hours can decrease productivity of the organization and employees performance whereas, the organization have to balance the company’s schedule. To cite an example, the working hours need to be reduced by one hour in the morning to motivate employees to utilize that hour in exercise which will help them to stay fit and productive for longer period of time.

To conclude with, the contemporary society have witnessed that balancing work life with personal is very crucial as not giving importance to exercise may lead to some serious issue and that can be expensive to deal with. From my vantage point, I find myself surrounded by more merits of exercise as doing it in the morning gives you a fresh start of the day to complete daily routine chores energetically.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The reasons provided (lack of time, sedentary work) are clear, but the discussion on solutions is slightly repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the suggestion to reduce working hours is a good idea, but the explanation of how this would be implemented or its impact on the organization is underdeveloped. The position is clear, but the essay would benefit from more detailed examples and a more thorough exploration of the consequences of inactivity to fully meet the requirements of a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the problem to the solution. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In my perspective, I am inclined to support the proportion' (which seems to refer to a previous statement that wasn't clearly defined). The transition between the problem of sedentary work and the proposed solutions could be smoother. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the internal flow within paragraphs occasionally feels disjointed, which prevents the essay from achieving a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'societal landscape' and 'vantage point', which are used reasonably well. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor collocation errors, such as 'support the proportion' (likely meaning 'proposition') and 'backbone injury' (where 'back pain' or 'spinal issues' would be more natural). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('number of working professional does not get', 'the contemporary society have witnessed') and awkward phrasing ('it is contend that'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices in the opening paragraph. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to demonstrate a lack of full control over complex structures, which is a key requirement for higher bands.
