Student answer (Band 6.5)

No physical activities are done by working population after working periods or during their leisure time. Consequently, they become victims of various health issues. This essay would discuss the root causes before acknowledging the solutions of this trend.

The first major cause behind this sedentary life is long working day. Workers go to work early and come back tiredly after sunset. In this way they invest all their physical and mental strength at work, therefore they do not get enough stamina to do exercises. Secondly, in this digital era, during their free time, they get carried away by the screens of their laptops or mobile phones for entertainment. In other words, they give priority to refresh their mind through media over body. For example, In a survey in India described that due to physical inactivity many office goers are suffering from many ailments such as obesity, blood pressure issues and diabetes.

The prime solution to make working people healthier by cutting time schedule of their work so they can do fitness exercises during their free time or after work. If authorities would reduce the time period of their working shift then they can utilize this time for gym, sports and other physical tasks.

Moreover, government and office administrator should arrange awareness campaign in which they get information about the consequences for a physically inactive body.

Hence, they will get motivation to participate in activities like yoga, Zumba, dancing, gym, sports and many more.

In conclusion, It can be said that longer working hours and attraction towards internet make them physically inactive but it can be solved by reducing working hours and through awareness camps.

should be less working hours

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for inactivity and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as long working hours and the distraction of digital media. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the suggestion to 'cut time schedule' is a bit simplistic and lacks a nuanced discussion of the economic or practical implications. While the position is clear throughout, the essay would benefit from more detailed examples or a deeper exploration of the consequences to reach a higher band. Overall, it covers all requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate causes from solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'The first major cause', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing (e.g., 'In a survey in India described that...' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow). Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'sedentary life', 'stamina', and 'ailments'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'come back tiredly' (should be 'return home exhausted') and 'attraction towards internet' (should be 'preoccupation with the internet'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'No physical activities are done by working population' (missing article), 'In a survey in India described that' (incorrect sentence structure), and 'government and office administrator should arrange' (subject-verb agreement). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the comma splice in '...tiredly after sunset. In this way they invest...'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points.
