Student answer (Band 7.0)
Many people balancing both work and life, find it challenging to accommodate exercise in their routine. As a result, they barely work out and face health issues due to their sedentary lifestyle. This is mainly driven by a lack of motivation and unseen mental stress experienced by working people, and there are some practical solutions to this problem.
The primary catalyst is that working people lack strong motivation to exercise. This is because most of them struggle to maintain their work-life balance which results in physical and mental exhaustion. Not only do they lack time in weekdays but also motivation to prioritize themselves by doing self-care or exercise. Furthermore, the mental exhaustion consumes their free time as well, and leaves them too tired to exercise even on their free days. To exemplify, the working women in a traditional Indian family, get no time left to herself after working 40 hours a week and completing all the household chores.
Consequently, it causes weight gain that results in various physical health and mental illnesses which deteriorate quality of life. The plausible solutions are workload division among family members, flexible work provision by employers, and initiatives to raise awareness by the government. Division of household chores and outsourcing some work can help people get some time for themselves. Freedom of work from home helps to save on time wasted in commute, which can be spent on exercise. The authorities should invest in awareness initiatives to educate people on the physical and mental benefits of exercise to motivate individuals to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
To sum up, while people somehow manage to balance both work and life, they miss out on exercising which creates a sedentary lifestyle. Nevertheless, with collaborative efforts from individuals, employers and the state, people can be encouraged to incorporate exercise in their routines.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. For instance, the discussion on work-life balance and the specific example of working women in India provide a clear context. The solutions offered—workload division, flexible work, and government awareness—are practical and directly answer the second part of the prompt. The position is clear throughout, and the response is well-structured to cover all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the problem and the solution is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', and 'To sum up' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the causes, the solutions, and the conclusion. The flow of information is natural, and the relationship between sentences is generally clear, meeting the requirements for a Band 7 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient and generally precise. Phrases like 'primary catalyst', 'sedentary lifestyle', and 'deteriorate quality of life' demonstrate a good command of language. There are some minor issues with collocation, such as 'work from home helps to save on time wasted in commute', which could be phrased more naturally. However, the range is adequate to convey complex ideas clearly, and the student successfully uses topic-specific vocabulary related to work and health, which is appropriate for the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some minor grammatical errors, such as 'get no time left to herself' (should be 'themselves' to match the plural subject 'working women') and 'in weekdays' (should be 'on weekdays'). However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. The control over punctuation and sentence structure is generally good, and the student demonstrates the ability to use complex sentences to express cause-and-effect relationships, which is a key requirement for higher bands.
