IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Many working people get little or no exercise either during the working day or in their free time, and have health problems as a result.
Why do many working people not get enough exercise?
What can be done about this problem?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
With the raising health concerns, some believe that people get very less time to work on themselves such as doing exercise, finishing that book or even cook food. On the other hand, some think that people should take some time off their busy schedules to get things done and stay healthy.
Firstly, I believe that the primary reason for not getting enough time to exercise is social media. Research shows that 7/10 people start their day with scrolling reels on social media platforms which in result releases dopamine and affects productivity. Moreover, after work, instead of going out for that quick running session or to play tennis with that long lost friend, people tend to lean more towards spending time binge watching series on streaming platforms. All these reason is the main cause behind the bad health problems.
To avoid this unproductive and lazy mornings, people should start practicing yoga in the morning before going to work. From my experience, I have been in both the situations where my mornings were full of scrolling reels which effectively lead to questionable decision-making power at work or where I was more productive by working out even for just 30 minutes. To keep that motivation, I joined a morning yoga club which taught me a lot of things about human health and how to be more conscious about it.
In conclusion, I believe that humankind should focus on the health along with the wealth. Everyone should take time off their chaotic life to keep up with the health because a wise person said "Health is the true wealth".

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. However, the development is somewhat limited. The focus on social media as the primary reason is relevant, but the discussion could be more nuanced by considering other factors like long working hours or commuting. The solution provided—practicing yoga—is personal and relevant, but it lacks a broader perspective on how society or employers could facilitate change. The introduction is slightly off-topic, as it discusses general time management rather than specifically addressing the prompt's focus on exercise. To reach a higher band, ensure that all ideas are fully extended with more detailed explanations or broader societal examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is a logical progression from the problem to the solution. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The use of 'All these reason' is a cohesive error that slightly disrupts the flow. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the ideas are sequenced in a way that makes the writer's position easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'decision-making power' and 'questionable decision-making'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'raising health concerns' (should be 'rising') and 'very less time' (should be 'very little time'). The phrase 'All these reason' also shows a lack of control over pluralization. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'even cook food' (should be 'even cooking food'), 'unproductive and lazy mornings' (should be 'unproductive and lazy morning'), and 'All these reason is' (should be 'All these reasons are'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic agreement and ensuring consistent verb forms in complex sentences.
