Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact of sedentary work and the role of employers in providing facilities. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation of why people do not exercise is repetitive, focusing heavily on 'stress' and 'drained energy' without exploring other factors like commuting or lifestyle choices. The solutions are practical but could be expanded with more specific examples. Overall, the position is clear, but the depth of analysis is consistent with a band 6 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'The most serious concern', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the colleague example and the general statement about energy. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problem and solution sections, which helps the reader follow the argument, but the overall progression could be smoother with more varied linking words.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors ('excercise', 'selfs', 'reptured', 'continous', 'tackle thesse', 'eomployers') which occasionally distract the reader. The range of vocabulary is limited; for example, the word 'work' is used repeatedly in different contexts. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific language like 'sedentary' or 'mitigated', the overall control is inconsistent. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on accurate spelling and using a wider range of synonyms to avoid repetition.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('working professionals does not prefer'), incorrect verb forms ('his spinal muscle has been reptured'), and awkward phrasing ('no excercise by working professional'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of '&' and missing commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
