Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people"s lifestyle has become so busy that they have no time for other things. One of the things that people can do to stay healthy is to exercise regularly. But very few individuals do it regularly. Others mostly live a sedentary lifestyle.

Most of the people today do very little or no exercise at all. For adults, it is mostly because they have to go to work and came home back tired, even at home they have to do important everyday tasks like prepare food, cleaning and other activities. This leaves them no time for doing any exercise. Even for people who have free time, they are possibly not aware of the benefits that exercise can provide in the long term. Exercising regularly can make an individual's body healthy, provide more endurance. It is one of the component of a healthy life.

To make people aware of the benefits of exercise can help in increasing the number of people who exercise. For people at work, there should be extra time in which there can be classes that show different exercises. For students in school, exercise should be introduced as a necessary curricular activity. Also, people who do not exercise face health problems later on in life, like pain in body, feeling tired. To avoid these problems, people should exercise whenever and make it a daily routine.

Overall, exercising daily is a healthy lifestyle behaviour. It should be a daily habit and every individual should do it. People should set aside time for exercise everyday and make their lifestyle more active.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the reasons provided (work fatigue and household chores) are common but could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The solutions suggested, such as workplace classes and school curriculum changes, are relevant but lack detail on how they would be implemented or why they would be effective. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your arguments with more depth and provide more concrete examples to support your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for reasons and solutions, and a conclusion. The progression of ideas is generally clear. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between sentences could be smoother; phrases like 'Also' and 'To make people aware' are functional but basic. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'it', 'these problems') is always precise would help the flow of the essay and improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and sophistication. You rely on common terms like 'important everyday tasks', 'healthy life', and 'make people aware'. While these are accurate, they do not demonstrate a wide range of lexical items. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'It is one of the component' (should be 'components') and 'lifestyle behaviour'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to health and lifestyle to demonstrate a broader range of lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, 'people"s lifestyle' (punctuation error), 'came home back tired' (tense inconsistency), and 'provide more endurance' (missing article/preposition). Additionally, there are minor errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic tense consistency and article usage would be beneficial.
