Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention 'fast food' and 'sedentary work' as reasons, the explanation lacks depth. Similarly, the solutions provided—such as 'government should focus on fast food'—are quite general and could be better supported with specific examples or more detailed reasoning. To improve, ensure that each point is fully extended with clear logical steps rather than just listing ideas. The position is clear, but the overall development needs more substance to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'another main reason', 'there are several significant problems'). Some transitions are missing or awkward, such as the abrupt start to the final paragraph. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic terms like 'bad effect', 'do not prefer', and 'many health problems'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'causing by' instead of 'caused by' and 'run campnging' instead of 'run campaigns'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary and collocations (e.g., 'sedentary lifestyle', 'mitigate the risks', 'promote public health') and ensure accurate spelling throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people are now do not prefer'), article usage, and tense consistency (e.g., 'several health problems are causing by'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring correct verb forms.
