Student answer (Band 7.5)
Nowadays, many working people do not get enough exercise, which can lead to various health problems. There are several reasons for this situation, but some practical measures can be taken to address it.
One major reason is the increasingly busy nature of modern working life. Many employees spend eight or more hours sitting at a desk, and after work they are often too tired to exercise. Long commuting times also reduce the amount of free time available for physical activity. In addition, some people prefer to spend their evenings watching television, using social media, or playing video games rather than doing exercise. For example, an office worker who spends an hour travelling to and from work may choose to relax on the sofa after returning home instead of going to the gym.
However, both employers and individuals can help solve this problem. Companies could provide facilities such as gyms or exercise classes and encourage workers to take short activity breaks during the day. They could also promote walking meetings or provide secure bicycle parking to encourage employees to be more active. Individuals should also make exercise part of their daily routine. For instance, they could walk or cycle to work, use stairs instead of elevators, or exercise for 30 minutes before or after work.
In conclusion, lack of time, tiredness and sedentary lifestyles are the main reasons why many workers do not exercise enough. Employers and individuals should work together to make physical activity a regular part of everyday life. This would improve both physical health and overall well-being.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt clearly. You have identified key reasons for the lack of exercise, such as sedentary work environments and commuting, and provided practical solutions for both employers and individuals. The ideas are well-developed and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of 'walking meetings' and 'secure bicycle parking'. The position is clear throughout the essay, and the response maintains a consistent focus on the topic. To reach a higher band, you could further elaborate on the long-term impact of these solutions to provide a more comprehensive analysis of the issue.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is smooth. You use a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'In addition', 'For example', 'However', and 'For instance', which help guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the causes from the solutions. The flow is natural, and the relationship between sentences is clear, meeting the requirements for a high band in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary that is appropriate for the task. Phrases like 'sedentary lifestyles', 'modern working life', and 'physical activity' are used accurately. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your ideas with precision. While the language is natural and clear, it remains somewhat functional. To achieve a higher score, you could incorporate more sophisticated or less common collocations and idiomatic expressions to demonstrate a wider, more flexible range of vocabulary, such as using 'strenuous' or 'mitigate' where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The essay displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You use conditional and modal structures effectively, such as 'Companies could provide...' and 'If they were to...'. The grammar is generally accurate, with very few errors. Punctuation is used correctly throughout, and the sentence construction is varied enough to maintain interest. The majority of your sentences are error-free, which indicates a strong command of grammatical control. There are no significant errors that impede communication, making the writing easy to follow.
