Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, most of the working people get little or almost no exercise time either during their working day or in their free time which as a result causes various health problems.

Most of the working people are unable to get enough exercise because of their busy schedule. As a result, this busy schedule further leads to stress and burnout which leaves them with no time to exercise. Moreover, even on their off days, they have many other pending works to do which again keeps them busy. Additionally, stress and fatigue makes a person more lazy to exercise.

This problem is rising every passing day and something must be done about this. Every person should atleast spend 30 minutes from their day towards exercise. As it will allow them to stay more, focused and will help them to relax. Also, it will foster a healthy lifestyle.

It is very important as it will shape their life and health more nicely. I have seen many old people who are near 60-65 age, still coming to park every morning or evening to do exercise to stay fit and healthy. this could become an inspiration for us to atleast spend few minutes on exercise to live a healthy and long life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for inactivity and suggesting solutions. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement (207 words). This lack of length results in underdeveloped ideas; for instance, the solutions provided are quite generic and lack specific examples or detailed explanations. While the position is clear, the brevity prevents the development of a fully cohesive argument. To improve, you must expand on your points by providing more detailed explanations, hypothetical scenarios, or specific examples to meet the word count and demonstrate a deeper exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into four paragraphs, which is a logical structure. There is some use of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'As a result'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the problem and the solution could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas feels somewhat abrupt due to the limited length of the paragraphs. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph develops a single, clear central idea that connects naturally to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. Phrases like 'pending works', 'do exercise', and 'shape their life' are functional but lack the precision and sophistication expected at higher levels. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'makes a person more lazy to exercise' (should be 'more reluctant' or 'less motivated'). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to health, sedentary lifestyles, and workplace dynamics, and focus on using more natural collocations rather than literal translations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'most of the working people' (the 'the' is unnecessary), 'atleast' (should be 'at least'), and 'near 60-65 age' (should be 'in the 60-65 age range'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are instances where sentence boundaries are slightly awkward. While the errors do not significantly impede communication, the range of structures is limited. To improve, practice using a wider variety of complex sentence forms, such as conditional clauses or relative clauses, and pay closer attention to article usage and subject-verb agreement.
