Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countries, working professionals have less or no time to maintain their physical fitness. Resulting in various health issues and growing concern of obesity. There are several factors which are responsible for this issue, and number of effective measures could be taken to address that.

The number of reasons contributing to no physical activity for employed professionals could be debatable. The primary reason is a busy working schedule. This is because of heavy workload, project completion deadlines, and stress or anxiety to achieve the organization goals. For example, there are number of people who on their desks for hours, which can result into back pain or gaining weight. Another contributing factor which can lead to this is personal preference of not taking part in any physically demanding activity. People get too tired to move their bodies after a busy day.

However these problems can be addressed in several ways. First and foremost, easy access workout areas could be established for working professionals in the organization itself. Facilities should impose policies for companies to build working out zone for their employees. For instance, gym, arcade zone, or indoor pickleball court can be built in lunch rooms so that employees can enjoy their leisure time as well as work out. This could bring a massive change towards physical fitness.

In conclusion, there could be various reasons of not exercising daily due to tiredness or uneven schedule. Nevertheless, I believe this issue can be reduced through government policies and interest in working out at least one hour of your day.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the lack of exercise and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as busy schedules and workplace stress, and the solutions, like workplace facilities, are practical. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion of 'government policies' in the conclusion is introduced too late and lacks specific explanation. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your examples with more depth and ensure that all points mentioned in the conclusion have been fully explored in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices like 'However', 'First and foremost', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the discussion of workplace stress and personal preference is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'that' in the introductory paragraph, which lacks a specific antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'physical fitness', 'demanding activity', and 'organization goals'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'result into' instead of 'result in' and 'facilities should impose policies', which is slightly unnatural. While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing, such as the repeated use of 'working' and 'work out'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'Resulting in various health issues' is a sentence fragment. You also have issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'there are number of people' (should be 'a number of') and 'build working out zone' (should be 'zones'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
