Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, a sedentary lifestyle has become common among people, leading to various health issues like obesity, and back pain. This essay will discuss the main reasons for this trend and suggest some possible solutions.
There are mainly two reasons why workers do not get sufficient time for exercise. First, modern jobs are often desk-bound and require long working hours. Many employee in offices spend eight to ten hours in front of computers, and after long working day, they feel too exhausted to go to the gym. For example, IT professionals in Canada often work overtime and prefer to rest in the evening. Second, people lack time due to other commitments. After work, they have to handle family responsibilities, such as, cooking and looking after children, leaving no time for physical activities.
However, there are several measures that can be taken to solve the problem. One effective solution for the employers to promote healthy workplace. Companies could provide Gym facilities in the office, or organize a short exercise break during the day. For instance, some companies in Saskatoon offer Yoga classes during lunch break. Another solution is for individual to make small lifestyle changes. Instead of driving to work, they could walk or cycle for short distance. Government can also help by creating more parks and cycle lanes and by running awareness campaigns about the benefits of regular exercise.
In conclusion, although long working hours and family commitments prevent people from exercising, this problem can be addressed if employers, individuals, and governments take joint responsibilities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for lack of exercise and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. The essay follows a logical structure, with clear paragraphs for reasons and solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention 'family responsibilities', expanding slightly more on the psychological impact of these commitments would have strengthened the argument. The position is clear throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting example is fully integrated and elaborated upon to demonstrate a deeper exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First', 'Second', 'However', and 'For instance' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used effectively, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the relationship between the problems and the proposed solutions is clear. There is no evidence of mechanical or repetitive use of linking words, and the overall structure supports the development of the topic well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. You use terms like 'sedentary lifestyle', 'desk-bound', and 'joint responsibilities' effectively. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'One effective solution for the employers to promote healthy workplace' (should be 'for employers to promote a healthy workplace') and 'for individual to make' (should be 'for individuals to make'). While the range is adequate, incorporating more sophisticated or less common lexical items would elevate the response. The spelling is accurate throughout, and the vocabulary used does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear and accurate, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as 'Many employee' (should be 'Many employees') and 'after long working day' (should be 'after a long working day'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors, such as 'One effective solution for the employers to promote healthy workplace'. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not hinder the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
