Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's world, it is essential to stay fit to prevent health issues. Many working professionals end up with health problems as they make very little or no time for exercise, either during working days or in their leisure time. I elaborate on the reason and solution to this problem in the subsequent paragraphs.

To commence with, the core reason behind working individuals skipping exercise is their workload. Nowadays, jobs have become too competitive and stressful. Most employees are working more hours in a pressurized environment during working hours. Thus, they are mentally too tired to go to the gym for exercise after work. Besides that, some working professionals are doing desk jobs that eliminate all movement of the body at all. To cite an example, if I talk about personal experience, I do not get the motivation to go to the gym for exercise after work hours because of mental tiredness. This belief suggests why most working individuals are most likely to do little or skip exercise and end up with certain health concerns.

On the solution side, the comprehensive solution is work practice modification as well as awareness. Employers should have a small gym at their facilities. Along with that, they must have a mandatory 15-minute relaxation break for doing light exercise. Apart from that, the government should spread awareness by spreading the mental and physical benefits of regular exercise through social media platforms, and how it will keep people far from health problems.

To recapitulate, the primary belief behind giving up exercise or doing very little by working professionals in their daily routine is competitive working practices. However, it could be resolved by a collaborative approach between employers and the government.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed both parts of the prompt: the reasons for lack of exercise and potential solutions. Your ideas are relevant and clearly presented. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention 'workload' and 'desk jobs' as reasons, these points could be expanded with more specific detail or analysis to reach a higher band. Similarly, your solutions are practical but could be more thoroughly explored in terms of their implementation or impact. Overall, you have provided a clear position and a logical structure that covers the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Besides that', and 'To recapitulate' to guide the reader through your argument. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the solutions. To improve, ensure that the relationship between sentences is more varied, as some of your linking phrases are quite standard. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'competitive', 'pressurized environment', and 'collaborative approach' effectively. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the primary belief behind giving up exercise' (where 'reason' or 'factor' would be more accurate than 'belief') and 'spread awareness by spreading the mental and physical benefits' (which is repetitive). While you successfully convey your meaning, incorporating more precise academic collocations would elevate your score. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your ideas clearly without causing confusion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several error-free sentences, which is positive. However, there are occasional grammatical slips, such as 'eliminate all movement of the body at all' (which is slightly redundant) and 'the primary belief behind giving up exercise... is competitive working practices' (where the subject and predicate do not align perfectly). Punctuation is generally accurate, and your control of grammar is sufficient to ensure that your message is never obscured. To reach a higher band, aim for more varied complex structures and ensure greater precision in your sentence construction.
