Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is severely under-length, containing only 94 words against the mandatory 250-word minimum specified in the instructions. Consequently, the task cannot be fully addressed. Although the writer introduces the topic by identifying causes such as work pressure, lack of awareness, and laziness, the body of the essay breaks off mid-sentence after mentioning excessive work, failing to discuss the causes in depth or propose solutions. According to the task achievement descriptors, this places the response firmly at Band 4.0, as it addresses the prompt only minimally and stops abruptly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The writer attempts to structure the response with an introductory paragraph, employing cohesive devices such as 'While' and 'To begin with'. However, due to the extreme brevity of the text, organizational progression cannot be properly established, and the essay halts prematurely. Paragraphing is attempted, but the second paragraph is incomplete, stopping at 'They do not'. Despite these structural limitations, the logical transition at the beginning of the text shows some rudimentary awareness of cohesion, which aligns with the lower end of Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for a basic attempt, using phrases such as 'busy schedule', 'physical activities', and 'health issues'. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary like 'phenomenon', though it is slightly mismanaged. Lexical errors are present, such as unnecessary spacing before punctuation marks ('recent decades , due to...'). The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and basic, but sufficient to convey simple ideas up to this point, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor for lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text contains a mix of simple and emerging complex structures, such as the introductory participial phrase 'In recent decades, due to...'. However, punctuation errors are frequent, including spaces before commas and periods. There is also a major punctuation and cohesion error where a comma splice and conjunction error occurs ('...leisure time, Hense , are suffering...'). Because the text is so short, complex structures are limited and frequently inaccurate, leading to noticeable strain for the reader, which warrants a Band 5.0 score.
