Student answer (Band 7.0)
Many working individuals are reluctant to exercise during their workdays or even in their leisure time, which results in health issues. While it primarily stems from mental exhaustion and a lack of motivation, it can be effectively addressed by raising awareness and motivating individuals to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The primary reason behind people ignoring exercise is the mental stress they experience in present times. Due to the demanding career and unclear boundaries in personal and professional lives, many individuals can face emotional stress, which may limit their participation in recreational activities such as exercise. Moreover, most individuals lack motivation to go to the gym or work out at home. As people grow older they may settle for their physical appearance and overrate the concept of physical fitness. For example, a working mother may not have enough motivation to go to the gym every day. Thus, emotional exhaustion and insufficient motivation contribute to physical inactivity.
People can be persuaded to adopt a healthy lifestyle in different ways, which can also improve their mood. Governments should raise awareness of the physical and mental benefits of exercise. If people were aware of the advantages of working out, they may prioritize taking out time to exercise. Furthermore, employers should set up a provision to allow employees to exercise during break hours to encourage them to incorporate exercise in their busy routines. For instance, many corporate offices in high-rise buildings offer free membership to Goodlife Fitness centre located in the same building. Such measures can make a considerable impact on working people's attitudes towards exercise.
In conclusion, although mental exhaustion and lack of motivation promote neglect towards exercising, it can be efficiently managed by government intervention. Authorities should raise awareness of exercising and encourage citizens to incorporate exercise in their busy routines.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the task. The student clearly identifies the causes of insufficient exercise among working people, namely mental exhaustion and a lack of motivation, as discussed in the second paragraph. The second part of the prompt is answered thoroughly in the third paragraph, where practical solutions are proposed, including government-led awareness campaigns and corporate provisions like gym memberships. The position is maintained clearly throughout the essay, and ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the working mother and the corporate offices in high-rise buildings. The task is successfully accomplished, meeting the criteria for a high band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. The introduction effectively sets the stage, followed by body paragraphs dedicated respectively to the causes and the solutions, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices are used appropriately to connect ideas, such as 'Moreover', 'Thus', 'Furthermore', and 'For instance'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. Referencing and substitution are handled smoothly, ensuring that the reader can easily follow the progression of arguments without confusion. Overall, cohesion is well managed, supporting the smooth flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The student exhibits a sufficient and flexible range of vocabulary suitable for the task. Less common lexical items are used with some awareness of style and collocation, such as 'emotional exhaustion', 'insufficient motivation', 'recreational activities', and 'government intervention'. Word choice is generally precise, and collocation is natural, as seen in 'adopt a healthy lifestyle' and 'make a considerable impact'. Although there are minor vocabulary repetitions, they do not detract from the overall quality of communication. Spelling and word formation are accurate throughout, demonstrating solid control over the lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response features a good variety of complex structures alongside simple sentences, showing strong overall control of grammar and punctuation. Examples of successful complex structures include conditional clauses ('If people were aware... they may prioritize...') and concessive clauses ('While it primarily stems from... it can be effectively addressed...'). The majority of sentences are error-free. While a few minor issues occur—such as the slight awkwardness in 'settle for their physical appearance'—these errors do not impede communication or obscure meaning. Punctuation is accurate, and the grammatical control is consistent from start to finish.
