Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many working people are deeply woven into their practical life without taking out time for their personal development. Exercise is a crucial aspect and serves as a mechanism to stay healthy and in shape. However, many people do not get the time for it. We are going to discuss what can be the possible reasons for that and the solutions.

People working regularly often prioritise their meetings, deadlines and work responsibilities more than they prioritise themselves. This constant focus leads them to the ignorance of extra activities such as exercise. I believe it is an important aspect of a person’s life because it helps them stay healthy, motivated and productive. When a person stays in shape so it makes them more confident. The main cause of obesity is not doing exercise because when working people sit at one place throughout the day, it automatically leads them to eat more unhealthy food and get more tired. Similarly, people like to eat or rest after work and not do anything productive because of the lack of energy as all the energy is invested into their work.

To overcome this problem, there should be a balance in a person’s life as it would help them become mote productive and disciplined in their lives. Most of the health problems are caused by obesity that can be avoided by exercising regularly. The government should also encourage people to balance their daily life and there should be advertisements regarding that. It could be done if people are actually motivated to stay healthy.

I strongly believe that everyone should take of their health and weight to lower the health problems and risks associated with it. It is equally important to give yourself some productive time with professional time too.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why working people do not get enough exercise and what can be done about it. The writer identifies key reasons such as prioritizing work responsibilities, fatigue, and sedentary lifestyles. Solutions are also offered, including finding a life balance and government advertising campaigns. However, some ideas are somewhat underdeveloped and repetitive, particularly regarding obesity and lack of energy. The position is generally clear, though the introduction uses a somewhat conversational roadmap phrase ('We are going to discuss...'). Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points, moving from causes to solutions. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'However', 'Similarly', and 'To overcome this problem', but referencing and logical progression are occasionally mechanical or slightly disjointed. For instance, the transition from work prioritization to obesity feels abrupt. While the structure is generally clear, cohesion can be enhanced for a smoother flow, placing it at a Band 6.0 level.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'personal development', 'sedentary' (implied by sitting at one place), and 'professional time'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'deeply woven into their practical life', 'ignorance of extra activities' (instead of neglect), and 'take of their health' (missing a preposition). Despite these inaccuracies, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, aligning with Band 6.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, such as 'does not get the time for it', 'leads them to the ignorance of', 'When a person stays in shape so it makes them', and 'take of their health'. While these errors persist, they rarely impede communication, and the writer demonstrates a reasonable attempt at complex structures, securing a Band 6.0 for grammatical range and accuracy.
