Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by identifying both the reasons why working people lack exercise and offering solutions. The ideas presented are relevant, but some aspects are more fully developed than others. For instance, the reasons behind the lack of exercise, such as working long hours or feeling lazy, are introduced but remain somewhat generalised without deep elaboration. Similarly, the solutions mentioned, like personal discipline and government schemes, are outlined briefly rather than thoroughly explored. This positions the response comfortably within the band for task response, where a clearer extension of ideas would be required to move further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, separating the reasons in the second paragraph from the solutions in the third. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'On the one hand' and 'First and foremost', which helps guide the reader through the text. However, some referencing is slightly mechanical or repetitive, and paragraphing could be managed with greater subtlety to cross into the higher band, where cohesion becomes more fluid and unnoticeable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'contemporary world', 'compelling solutions', and 'dedication'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'competative', 'peopele', 'countinuously', 'ther', 'perfore', 'lazyness', 'taerget', and 'alhoough'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they reflect an occasional lack of precision in word form and spelling that prevents the response from achieving a higher lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with 'such as', 'if', and 'where'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as tense usage in 'Here, I will explained', missing articles, and awkward phrasing like 'ends up having some health issues'. However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication. To reach the next band, the writer would need to demonstrate a greater frequency of error-free complex sentences and finer control over verb forms and article usage.
