Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is widely recognized that working professionals devote a very little time to physical activities which later results in several health problems. As working people are obliged to follow certain schedules it does not allow them to engage themselves in exercises. However, this problem can be resolved by some benefits from the employer.

It is an irrefutable fact that individuals spend a considerable amount of time at the workplace and its commute. Also on weekends most of their time is spent doing domestic work and preparing themselves for the following week. Due to this reason they only get a limited time to indulge themselves in sports or any other activity. By following the same routine for a longer duration they are caught by health problems such as obesity, strained muscles, bone weakness and so on. To illustrate, people who work in an office environment spend most of the day sitting in front of the computer which restricts physical movements in the body. Longer seating results in weakness in bones and they easily get tired when performing some physical tasks.

Conversely, this problem can be improved by some efforts from the employer. The company can provide its employees with the free membership of a gym, sports activity or some physiotherapy sessions. This practice can motivate a lot of workers to participate in physical activities which are provided for free. Moreover, the organizations must also provide some personal days off in a year. This time can be utilized for proper body check-ups and performing physical exercises. For instance, by providing a 10-minute break after every hour or an hour and a half can give employees a chance to move around and relax. This opportunity will not provide a balance between personal life and work but also will make employees more productive because they will be away from unnecessary diseases.

In conclusion, undoubtedly hectic work schedules restricts time for physical exercises. This problem can be addressed by some support from the companies towards their employees.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both questions and maintains a clear focus: it explains time pressure from work, commuting and domestic responsibilities, then proposes employer support such as gym memberships and movement breaks. The office-worker example also helps illustrate how prolonged sitting affects activity levels. These relevant points meet the task well, but some are not fully developed. For example, the health effects are listed, yet the explanation of how limited exercise leads to them is brief, and the suggestion of personal days off is not clearly connected to regular exercise. To strengthen the response, explain the causes and likely impact of each proposed measure more precisely, and develop examples that show how the solutions could work in practice.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to causes, solutions and a conclusion. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “To illustrate,” “Moreover” and “For instance” help readers follow the discussion. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “Conversely” suggests a contrast, although the next paragraph presents solutions, and “By following the same routine” does not clearly identify which routine is meant. The final example also runs into the following sentence without a space after “relax.” For stronger progression, use transitions that express the exact relationship between ideas and make references explicit, so each sentence follows naturally from the one before it.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

There is an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “physical activities,” “domestic work,” “physiotherapy sessions” and “productive.” The writer also attempts more formal expressions, but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “a very little time,” “caught by health problems,” “longer seating” and “some benefits from the employer.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for familiar, accurate collocations rather than formal-sounding phrases: for example, describe workers as having “little time for exercise,” being “at risk of health problems,” or spending “long periods sitting.” More precise wording would make the argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex structures, including subordinate clauses beginning “As” and “which,” and most ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, however. In the opening, “which later results” has an unclear reference and awkward agreement; “it does not allow them” also has an unclear subject. In the conclusion, “work schedules restricts” should use a plural verb, and “will not provide a balance … but also will make” is not a correctly balanced construction. There are also punctuation and spacing slips, such as “relax.This.” To improve, check subject–verb agreement, ensure pronouns clearly refer to a noun, and use parallel forms in paired constructions such as “not only … but also.”
