Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You describe the issue, explain the impact on the community, and suggest a solution. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, the explanation of how the garbage is being handled by you and your friends is somewhat unclear, and the suggestion for what should be done is brief. To improve, try to expand on your ideas with more specific details or examples to ensure the reader fully understands the severity of the situation. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a council, though it could be more professional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter uses basic paragraphing and some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover' to structure the response. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the second and third paragraphs where the sentences do not flow smoothly. Some referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'that is a main reason and then after me and my friends'. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will help create a more coherent text. The overall structure is sufficient to follow the argument, but it lacks sophistication.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'working properly' and 'garbage'. There are also several word-choice errors, such as 'diseases parents' (likely meaning 'spread of diseases') and 'garbage car' (instead of 'garbage truck' or 'collection vehicle'). Spelling errors like 'medam', 'nager', and 'mater' also detract from the quality of the writing. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise vocabulary related to municipal services and health issues, and pay closer attention to spelling and standard collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writing contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('Many students are studies'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures ('this system used for rubbish... is not working'). The range of grammatical structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation requires attention. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors like verb forms and prepositions will significantly improve your score.
