Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I feel extremely tired of this problem which me and other society members are facing currently. We always maintain our neighborhood perfectly clean all the time. However, recently from few days the garbage collection vehicle is not coming to our society.
Moreover, due to this we are having a lot of trouble to breath cause of this disgusting smell of garbage. Not only it spreads bad smell but also creates some serious health issues. Children plays in the evening time at near park but they are getting fever because of mosquitos.
Furthermore, we already tried to contact the rubbish collector few times but never heard back. At the end, I am writing this application to you and request to take a serious action on this matter. Additionally, I would like to suggest you that till this issues resolves can you please send a letter to the whole society to throw their house garbage in big containers outside of our society. So, this will not add more issues to the situation we already in.
Yours Sincerely,
Akkkkkk

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the issue, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a council. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the suggestion to use 'big containers' is a practical idea, but the explanation of the current situation could be more detailed to fully meet the requirements of a higher band. The response is clear and the purpose of the letter is established from the beginning, ensuring the reader understands the context immediately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally' are used to link ideas, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. While the structure is sound, the use of referencing could be more sophisticated to improve the flow between sentences. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the clarity of the message.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their message clearly. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'society members' (where 'residents' would be more appropriate) and 'at near park'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the urgency of the situation, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. Some collocations are slightly off, such as 'take a serious action', which should be 'take serious action'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'recently from few days' (should be 'in the last few days'), 'trouble to breath' (should be 'trouble breathing'), and 'Children plays' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors are noticeable, they do not significantly impede communication. The writer demonstrates an attempt to use complex sentences, but control over these structures is inconsistent. Improving accuracy in basic subject-verb agreement and preposition usage would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
