Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to impress my dissatisfaction about collecting liters at our local living area.
We are living at the western corner of ABC park where has a playground for kids. In spite of piority to keep this area clear and clean, there was so much garbage with bad smell from waste food.
Owing to this issue, children may get harm to their well-being. Everyday, most of our sons and daugthers come here to enjoy their outdoor activities.
Apart from that, the team who in charge to collect garbage is always work in careless. They don't come here as the schedule as weekly. Some time they came in biweekly, this actions lead to a harmful evironment for local citizens.
Given these circumstanes, I appreciate for it if you could reflect this complain to your team to upgrade their works quality. More over, please consider put some information board at the playground to remind people to collect their own litera before they leave.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon!
Yours faithfully,
Lac Dam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the problem, explaining the impact, and suggesting solutions. Your tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a council. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the garbage is not collected on schedule, providing a specific example of how long the waste has been accumulating would have strengthened your argument. The suggestions are relevant, but could be more detailed to show a better grasp of the situation. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. You use paragraphing to separate the different points, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Apart from that' and 'Given these circumstanes'. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they flow more naturally would help elevate your score. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of incorrect word choice and spelling errors that hinder precision. For example, you used 'liters' instead of 'litter', 'piority' instead of 'priority', and 'evironment' instead of 'environment'. Phrases like 'impress my dissatisfaction' are unnatural; 'express my dissatisfaction' would be the correct collocation. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the frequent spelling and word-choice errors suggest a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of accurate, formal vocabulary to convey your message more professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the team who in charge to collect garbage is always work in careless' (should be 'the team in charge of garbage collection works carelessly') and 'I appreciate for it if you could' (should be 'I would appreciate it if you could'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are inconsistent. While your meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and verb forms will lead to significant improvement.
