Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the system failure, explaining the impact, and suggesting solutions. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the impact on children's education is mentioned but not explained, and the suggestion regarding 'spreading awareness' is quite general. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details or examples to support your arguments. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a local council, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'consequently', 'first of all', and 'on the other hand' to link your ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the transition 'on the other hand' to introduce a solution, which is not the most natural choice here. Additionally, some sentences lack smooth flow, making the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed at times. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the text flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'crucial', 'toxic', and 'authority'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'passed the celender' instead of 'distributed a calendar' and 'proceed with garbage' instead of 'collect the waste'. Spelling errors, such as 'celender', 'guidences', and 'speading', also occur. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations related to waste management would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive step. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, including issues with article usage ('the mountain of rubbish'), subject-verb agreement ('this is not only creates'), and verb forms ('it would be affect'). Some sentences are also structurally incomplete or confusing, such as 'The system is not working is not working properly'. While the meaning remains clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation indicate that you need to focus on proofreading and mastering fundamental sentence construction to improve your accuracy.
