Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am Rock. I am a dweler of Morecroft Crescent. I am writing this letter to show my concern and bring your attention on the miss management of garbadge collecting in my area.
I am living at this place from past 5 years, but never face any problem regarding the garbadge collect department. However, from last month there are numerous complaints are rising in my area about rubbish collectig system. Firstly, the garbadge should be collected on every monday morning, which is declared by the concil, Instead of coming on Monday the garbadge picker comes on other day, which is creating mess. Beacuse sometime people are not availabe foe take out the garbadge.
Moreover, if concil change the day, no one in my neighbouhood gets any information regarding this. As the garbadge is not picked up ontime, there is so much rubbist is lying on the street. In some area there are many mosquitos and flys lying on garbadge which may cause infection and generate the diseases. I want to suggest you that please trained the staff in a proper manner before rpoving them jobs. And also, if there is any schedue changes, Kindly provides the legal notice, so that every resident should know.
I am requesting you to please take an immetiate action to solve this problem. I will be gratful to you.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
Rock Dean

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task prompt. The writer describes the rubbish collection system failing to follow schedule, explains the impact on residents including the mess and potential health hazards such as mosquitoes and flies, and suggests solutions like better staff training and advance notification of schedule changes. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a local council, opening with 'Dear Sir/ Madam' and closing appropriately with 'Yours sincerely'. Although there are minor grammatical and spelling errors throughout the text, the ideas are sufficiently developed and extended to fulfill the task requirements well. The writer maintains a clear purpose and position from beginning to end, ensuring all prompt requirements are met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter has a generally coherent overall arrangement and is divided into appropriate paragraphs to separate different points, such as the introduction, the description of the problem, the consequences and suggestions, and the sign-off. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, transitional phrases like 'Firstly' and 'Moreover' are used, but linking devices are occasionally awkward or repetitive (e.g., 'if concil change the day, no one in my neighbouhood gets any information...'). Referencing is mostly clear, though some sentences feel abrupt or loosely connected due to missing cohesive ties. Paragraphing is present and helps structure the letter, but transitions between ideas could flow more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating key concepts related to municipal services and neighborhood issues. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the overall quality, such as 'dweler' instead of 'dweller', 'miss management' instead of 'mismanagement', 'garbadge' instead of 'garbage', 'concil' instead of 'council', 'Beacuse' instead of 'Because', 'availabe' instead of 'available', 'flys' instead of 'flies', 'rpoving' instead of 'providing', 'schedue' instead of 'schedule', and 'immetiate' instead of 'immediate'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they reflect a limited control over spelling and accurate word formation, placing the lexical performance firmly in the mid-range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in sentence structures (e.g., 'As the garbadge is not picked up ontime, there is so much rubbist is lying on the street'). However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with verb tenses, prepositions, and articles. Examples include 'I am living at this place from past 5 years, but never face any problem' (should use present perfect continuous 'have been living' and past simple 'faced'), 'bring your attention on' (preposition error for 'bring your attention to'), 'for take out' (should be 'to take out'), and 'please trained the staff' (incorrect base verb form after 'please'). These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning usually remains understandable.
