Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/ Madam ,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing letter to share an issue regarding the garbage collection in our area.
It's been a month that we are enable to take a breathe in fresh air. The garbage collection team is not working properly as they do not have any fixed schedule. Sometimes they come during the day when we are at work and sometimes early in the morning when we are in rush. So, they leave quickly without waiting for a while.
It negatively impacted us because we have to keep the garbage in the park where we walk and exercise daily.
Furthermore, it’s not good for the environment. It’s becoming a haven for insects and creating an infection that makes everyone sick.
I would appreciate it if the schedule would be properly organized in your surveillance. Also, train the rubbish collection team in proper manners.
Thank you for your support and efforts to make our society clean and green.
Kind Regards,
Puneet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully covered all parts of the task prompt. You described how the rubbish collection system is not working properly by highlighting the lack of a fixed schedule and unpredictable timings. You also explained how this affects you and your neighbours, noting the impact of storing garbage in the park and the subsequent environmental and health risks. Finally, you provided clear suggestions to resolve the issue, such as organizing a proper schedule under surveillance and training the collection team. The letter has an appropriate semi-formal tone and purpose. Your ideas are relevant and well-developed, matching the expectations for a Band 7 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear overall progression. You appropriately used paragraphing to separate your greeting, opening, description of the problem, impacts, suggestions, and closing. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'Also' help link your ideas, although some referencing is slightly mechanical. The opening sentence 'I am writing letter' lacks an article, but overall the logical flow is easy to follow. Progression throughout the letter is clear, fulfilling the criteria for a Band 6.5 to 7.0 response. Given the solid paragraphing and clear transition of ideas, a Band 6.5 is well earned.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and attempts some less common phrasing such as 'haven for insects' and 'clean and green'. However, there are a few lexical errors and unnatural word choices, such as writing 'enable' instead of 'unable' in 'we are enable to take a breathe', and 'in your surveillance' instead of 'under your supervision'. Despite these vocabulary and word-choice errors, communication is never impeded, and your meaning remains clear throughout the letter, which aligns closely with the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrated a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as using 'Although' or subordinate clauses like 'when we are at work'. However, there are several grammatical and spelling errors throughout the text. For example, 'I am writing letter' is missing the article 'a', 'we are enable' contains a word-form error ('unable'), and 'in our rush' should be 'in a rush'. Additionally, 'creating an infection' is awkward usage. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication, placing your grammatical performance firmly in the Band 6 category.
