Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. You clearly describe the failure of the rubbish collection service, explaining how the schedule has become inconsistent over the past two weeks. You also outline the negative effects on you and your neighbours, such as the accumulation of waste creating a blockage and attracting stray animals. Furthermore, you present practical solutions, including digital tracking and the installation of neighborhood bins. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the tone is appropriate for a formal correspondence with a local council. To move towards higher bands, you could extend your ideas even further by exploring the specific health or safety implications of the piled-up waste in greater detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

Your letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You begin with an appropriate formal salutation and statement of purpose, move smoothly through the description of the problem and its effects, and conclude with actionable suggestions and a polite sign-off. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate each main point, such as grouping the scheduling details in the second paragraph and the consequences in the third. You use cohesive devices adequately, such as 'To begin with', 'To add on', and 'Moreover', although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, you could integrate your ideas with a wider variety of linking words that make the transitions between sentences feel even more natural and effortless.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully communicating your message to the reader. You attempt some less common items and functional phrases, such as 'express my dissatisfaction', 'inconsistent', and 'hygienic'. However, there are notable spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'writig', 'evry', 'wenesday', 'wil', 'accumilated', 'tonns', 'Aditionally', and 'place', which detract from the overall quality. Additionally, some word choices could be more precise or idiomatic for a formal letter. To improve your lexical score, you need to broaden your control of less common vocabulary and carefully proofread your writing to eliminate spelling mistakes that interrupt the reader's flow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar. You use several complex structures successfully, such as 'I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with garbage collection as it is not functioning properly' and 'People are disposing their rubbish in the corner end of our street.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'from last two weeks' instead of 'for the last two weeks', missing commas in compound structures, and minor punctuation issues in your sign-off ('Looking forward to hearing back from you.,'). However, these errors rarely impede communication. To reach a higher standard, you should aim for greater accuracy with prepositions and complex sentence patterns while ensuring flawless punctuation.
