Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by describing the broken rubbish collection system, explaining its impact on the neighbourhood, and suggesting solutions, such as hiring someone for garbage collection or organizing a guided tour. However, the length requirement was not met, as the response contains 148 words, falling just short of the 150-word minimum, with 8 words copied from the prompt left uncounted. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat under-developed, particularly the explanation of how the problem affects residents, which relies on repetitive points about bad smells rather than fully extending each thought.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure appropriate for a formal complaint. The response effectively utilizes sequencing devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Finally' to organize the main points clearly. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, body points, and conclusion. While referencing and paragraph flow are generally clear, cohesion feels somewhat mechanical at times due to repetitive sentence openings and basic transitional links, which prevents the response from achieving a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts related to the complaint. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling mistakes ('problelm') and awkward word choices ('diseases problem' instead of 'health issues', and 'afftecting' with a double 't'). While the writer attempts less common expressions like 'guided tour', inaccuracies in word formation and collocation prevent the vocabulary from demonstrating the precision and flexibility expected at higher bands, though communication is not significantly impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as 'As I am a current resident...' and 'could you please have a guided tour...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including tense and preposition inconsistencies ('since last two weeks' instead of 'for the last two weeks') and redundant phrasing ('This problem also harming us'). Nevertheless, these errors are relatively minor and rarely impede overall communication, reflecting a solid command of basic structures alongside developing control of complex sentences.
