Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by describing the breakdown in the rubbish collection system, explaining its impact on the local community, and suggesting clear solutions. Your position is well-maintained throughout the letter, and the ideas are extended and supported effectively. For instance, you explain how the missed collections on Tuesday and Friday have caused an empty plot to be used as a dump, leading to health issues such as dengue and malaria among neighbours. To move towards a higher band, the details and examples could be even more fully elaborated with extended supporting arguments or contextual background, ensuring that all bullet points are expanded with maximum depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organisation, meeting the requirements of the lower band fully while exhibiting aspects of the next. Your thoughts flow naturally from describing the problem to detailing the consequences and finally offering actionable solutions. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points of the letter. However, cohesion at times feels slightly mechanical or repetitive in how sentences are linked, and referencing could be smoother, such as when transitioning between the discussion of insects and the helpline reports. Greater flexibility in employing cohesive devices and referencing would help elevate this aspect further.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You display an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and phrases such as 'priority basis' and 'vacant plot'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors in word choice, collocation, and phrasing—for example, writing 'grab your attention towards' instead of 'draw your attention to', and 'on last week' instead of 'since last week'. Additionally, there are minor spelling and prepositional collocation slips associated with vocabulary choices. These errors do not impede overall communication, but refining your word choices and using more precise collocations will help you achieve a higher standard of lexical precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your writing uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in your structures. However, frequent grammatical errors occur throughout the text, including tense consistency, article omission, and awkward structural patterns. For example, 'garbage collection system' lacks necessary articles, 'is not coming from last week' contains a tense error, and 'people started using it to dump there waste' contains a homophone spelling mistake ('there' instead of 'their'). Attempts at complex structures are often accompanied by these frequent errors, which can occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader and keep the writing at this level.
