Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I recently found that the litter collection system is not working efficiently. This causes various problems to local people. So, I would like to write this letter regarding this issue.
The garbage collector has not properly working through their duty time. Furthermore, the vehicle used for garbage collection is not proper. It gets damaged. So, the system has some technical problems, while collecting waste materials. Moreover, it is not well organized with regards to distinguishing a garbage.
Due to all this errors, me and my neighbours had faced some serious concerns. It is affected our health by overgrowth of the mosquitoes surrounding an area. As a result, some people diagnosed with some serious health issues, like malaria or dengue. Moroever, water has contaminated by this wastes. Ultimately, some people diagnosed with typhoid by consumption of this contaminated water.
To overcome this crucial situation, members of municipal corporation should look into this situation by implementing some strict rules. They should enforce such strict rules and regulation regards to effective system for litter collection form our area. In addition to this, they should allocate such amount of budget to purchase better equipment.
Thank you for your cooperation. I am looking forward to your response. I hope that better sytem would be implemented in future.
Yours sincerely,
Shubham Savaliya

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points: you describe collection failures, explain effects on residents, and propose action by the municipal corporation. The examples of damaged collection vehicles and waste-related health risks make the complaint relevant, while the request for stricter rules and better equipment gives the council a clear direction. The purpose and generally formal tone are clear throughout. Some details, however, are broad rather than fully explained: “not well organized with regards to distinguishing a garbage” does not make clear what sorting or separation problem occurs, and the proposed rules are not specified. To strengthen the letter further, describe the collection schedule or sorting failure precisely and make the requested action more concrete, such as regular pickups and vehicle maintenance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: an opening that states the purpose, a paragraph describing collection problems, a paragraph on their effects, and a final paragraph proposing solutions. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “As a result,” and “In addition to this” help show how the points relate, and the closing is appropriate for a formal complaint. At times, however, the transitions feel repetitive or mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “So” and “Moreover.” Some references are also unclear, as in “Due to all this errors” and “this wastes,” which makes the reader pause to identify what is meant. Use a wider range of natural links and make references to the collection failures and waste explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “garbage collection,” “contaminated,” “municipal corporation,” and “equipment,” and the reader can understand the main complaint. There are also attempts at more formal language, such as “overcome this crucial situation.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “garbage collector has not properly working through their duty time” and “distinguishing a garbage” do not express the intended ideas clearly. Spelling slips such as “Moroever” and “sytem” also reduce control. Aim for common, accurate combinations before choosing more elaborate phrases—for example, “the collection service is unreliable” and “separate recyclable waste from general rubbish.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including cause-and-effect structures such as “As a result, some people diagnosed with some serious health issues” and “To overcome this crucial situation, members of municipal corporation should look into this situation.” The paragraphing and sentence boundaries generally make the message readable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur repeatedly: “has not properly working” needs a form such as “has not been working,” “It is affected our health” should be “It has affected our health,” and “water has contaminated” needs a passive construction. These patterns sometimes make the relationships between events less clear. Practise accurate present perfect and passive forms, and check subject–verb agreement and articles when editing.
