Student answer (Band 6.0)
Respected sir,
I am writing this letter with a serious concern for garbage collection sysytem which has became a reason for causing problem in our neigbourhood.
These days rubbish collection sytem are lacking in collecting waste on time which causes garbage remains on streets almost for whole day. Those assigned people are not following the routine of picking up the assigned garbages which results in leaving unnecessary waste behind and most of the time spilled rubbish was found on streets by some neigbours.
I would like to highlight these problems has affecting the daily life style of local people plus animals from surrondings. At the time of heading for office or coming back neigbours find out some racoons and dogs are tryinig to eat rubbish things which could affect thier health, so people ended cleaning the same mess left behind by others which cost them time and incovinience.
I would like to request please try set some strict rules and standards in which these kind of things can be avoided. It will be a great solution if any superior will regularly monitor thier activities with a survilleance strategies and bylaw also could give a visit after thier job for assurance that how things are going.
Your sincerly
Lovish

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points: it describes missed or delayed collections and rubbish left on the streets, explains the effects on residents and animals, and proposes monitoring and stricter rules. The impact is made concrete through the example of raccoons and dogs eating waste and neighbours having to clean it up. These relevant details support the complaint and make the requested action clear. To strengthen the response further, make the proposed measures more specific and practical—for example, request a reliable collection schedule, prompt removal of spilled rubbish, and a way for residents to report missed pickups. The opening and closing could also use the standard formal letter conventions more consistently.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall progression: the opening states the concern, the next paragraphs describe the collection failures and their effects, and the final paragraph suggests action. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and links such as “which causes” and “so” show relationships between ideas. However, some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly “these problems has affecting the daily life style” and the long sentence about animals and residents cleaning the mess. Repeated openings with “I would like” also make the letter feel somewhat mechanical. Use clearer topic sentences and vary transitions, while splitting the effects paragraph into shorter, more direct sentences to make the sequence easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “garbage collection,” “assigned people,” “spilled rubbish,” “monitor,” and “strict rules,” so the main message is understandable. There are also attempts at more formal language, such as “serious concern” and “surveillance strategies.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations are noticeable: “sysytem,” “neigbourhood,” “unnecessary waste,” and “survilleance strategies.” Some choices are also vague, such as “things” and “rubbish things,” while “assigned garbages” is not a natural expression. Build accuracy by checking spelling and choosing precise collocations, such as “collection staff,” “missed collections,” and “waste left on the pavement.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The letter attempts complex sentences, including clauses with “which” and “so,” but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “rubbish collection sytem are lacking,” “these problems has affecting,” and “some racoons and dogs are tryinig to eat,” where agreement and verb forms are faulty. The sentence beginning “At the time of heading for office” also has an unclear grammatical structure, and “Your sincerly” does not form a correct closing. Use simpler, controlled sentence patterns first, then add subordinate clauses carefully. For example: “Collections are often late, so rubbish remains on the streets. This attracts dogs and raccoons, which may become ill.” Check subject–verb agreement, tense, articles, and sentence boundaries during revision.
