Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

i am writing to express my concerns about collection of garbage in local area. Rubbish collectors not come on time to collect garbage in local area owing to which it harms not only environment but also people lives. Because it gives birth of number of fatal disease including maleria, fever and many more in turn of which people can loses their lives. Along with this, it disappear the beauty of area because of a lot ofgarbage surrounded there. I think government should take effective action to improve it. Firstly, they need to strict action on garbage collectors if they do not come on time, they should give either punished them or replaced them. In addition to it, authorities should provide more bins to throw the rubbish in local area.

I hope you would consider my perceptions and take better actions as soon as possible to overcome this problem.

Yours faithfully,

Gagndeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you describe missed or late collections, explain the effects on residents and the appearance of the area, and propose action against collectors as well as more bins. The purpose is clear and the formal closing suits a council letter. The impact is relevant, but claims about fatal diseases and people losing their lives are broad and would be more convincing with a specific local example, such as overflowing bins attracting pests or creating unpleasant smells. The proposed response could also be more fully explained—for example, a reliable collection schedule and a way for residents to report missed pickups. These details would make the ideas more developed and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter follows a generally sensible order: it introduces the problem, describes its effects, suggests remedies, and ends with a request for action. Connectors such as “Along with this” and “In addition to it” help show how ideas relate, and the reader can follow the overall message. However, most of the content is presented in one long paragraph, so the problem, consequences, and recommendations are not visually separated. Some links are also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “because” and “in turn of which.” Use clear paragraph breaks and more natural transitions, and make references explicit—for instance, specify what “it” refers to in “it harms” and “it disappear.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “rubbish collectors,” “environment,” “fatal disease,” “authorities,” and “bins,” so the main message is understandable. There is also an attempt to use more formal language in “express my concerns” and “take effective action.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “gives birth of number of fatal disease,” “disappear the beauty,” and “take better actions.” Spelling and word formation also need attention in “maleria” and “garbage” joined to the preceding word. Aim for precise, natural phrases such as “can lead to disease,” “detracts from the area’s appearance,” and “take appropriate measures.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “Because” and a recommendation introduced by “Firstly.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in basic sentence construction and verb forms are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to read. For example, “Rubbish collectors not come” needs an auxiliary and a suitable verb form, while “people can loses their lives” has an incorrect verb after “can.” In “they should give either punished them or replaced them,” the structure and verb forms do not fit together. Capitalise “I,” and check articles, plurals, and agreement. Practise building accurate sentences with modal verbs and parallel alternatives before adding longer clauses.
