Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to report you about rubbish collection that is not working properly near Scottsdale centre since last last two weeks which leads to alot of difficulities around my area.
The collection of rubbish is not working accuratly in my neighbourhood because of ongoing construction of the road in our area. In result of this, large amount of garbages are collected near the garbage areas and now so many flies are there and it starts smelling bad now. Rubbish Trucks cannot come to our location and we are struggling this garbage problem and it also start blocking the side walks.
To resolve this, we are requesting you to send three four guys so that they are lift the waste and get it to garbage trucks. Moreover, we are also available to help them incase needed. I hope you will definitely find a solution of this problem. I will wait for your reply.
Yours Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you report that collection has failed for two weeks, explain the effects of flies, bad smells and blocked sidewalks, and ask the council to arrange workers to move the waste. The cause—road construction—also helps make the complaint specific. The request for “three four guys” and the offer to help show a practical response, although the proposed action could be clearer about how often collection should happen or how access could be maintained during construction. The impact on neighbours is implied by “our area” rather than described in detail. This covers the task well overall, with some points less fully developed; adding a specific request and one concrete effect on neighbours would strengthen the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible order: purpose, explanation of the collection failure and its effects, then a proposed solution and closing. Paragraphing separates the main stages, and links such as “In result of this,” “Moreover,” and “To resolve this” help the reader follow the message. Some connections are less smooth or precise, particularly the long sentence beginning “The collection of rubbish…” and the shift from the cause to the consequences. The final request and offer to help could also be separated or linked more clearly. Overall, the organisation is coherent, though a few transitions and references feel mechanical or unclear. Shorter sentences and more precise linking would make the progression more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the problem, including “rubbish collection,” “construction,” “flies,” “garbage trucks,” and “side walks.” The letter also uses an appropriate formal purpose phrase, “I am writing to report…”. However, several noticeable word-choice, collocation and spelling errors reduce precision: “report you about,” “large amount of garbages,” “lift the waste,” “accuratly,” and “difficulities.” Some expressions are also repetitive, especially “rubbish” and “garbage.” The meaning remains generally understandable, but the range and control are limited. Aim to learn common complaint-letter collocations and check spelling and countability, for example, use “report a problem,” “a large amount of rubbish,” and “remove the waste.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which leads to…” and a reason clause explaining that road construction is affecting collection. The main message is usually clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “since last last two weeks” has an incorrect time expression, “it starts smelling” shifts awkwardly from the past situation, and “so that they are lift the waste” has an incorrect verb construction. There are also agreement and article problems in “large amount of garbages are collected” and “it also start blocking.” These errors do not generally prevent understanding, but they show that complex structures are not yet consistently controlled. Practise verb forms, agreement and countable/uncountable nouns.
