Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing this letter to bring your attention on the problems caused by the system used for rubbish/garbage collection.
There has been an issue regarding the system which is used for collectiong the garbage or rubbish. this is causing a serious problem to everyone who resides in our area. Since the tool is not working properly, the waste garbage is stincking and creating health issues to our neighbours.
Something has to be done regarding this problem like replacing the old system with new digital equipment or else repairing the spoiled tool. It would be better to rectify the issue as early as possible. Otherwise, most of the people in our area will be affected with various kinds of health difficulties.
Cleanliness is highly required in our area. Thus, I would like to request you to examine the issue and do the needful.
Yours Sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you identify a malfunctioning collection system, describe unpleasant smells and possible health effects, and ask the council to repair or replace the equipment. The purpose and formal tone are clear. However, the description of the failure remains vague: “the tool is not working properly” does not explain whether collections are missed, bins are overflowing, or rubbish is left uncollected. The effects are also stated generally rather than supported with a specific example, and the proposed solutions are not clearly tied to the actual cause. Explain what is happening and how it affects residents in more concrete terms, then make a focused request for action.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens by stating its purpose, moves to the problem and its effects, then gives a request and closes politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “Since,” “Otherwise,” and “Thus” show the relationships between ideas. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some flexibility in linking. To make the progression more consistently smooth, avoid repeating the same general point across paragraphs and connect each proposed action directly to the problem described. For example, explain whether the council should repair the collection vehicle or arrange more frequent pickups, rather than referring broadly to “the spoiled tool.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and maintain a formal register, including “health issues,” “rectify the issue,” and “examine the issue.” However, the range is limited by repeated, imprecise wording such as “problem,” “issue,” “system,” and “tool.” Some choices are unnatural or unclear: “waste garbage” is redundant, and “the spoiled tool” does not clearly identify the equipment. There are also spelling errors in “collectiong” and “stincking.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and control. Use specific terms for the collection failure and its effects, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, including the conditional warning “Otherwise, most of the people in our area will be affected…” and the subordinate clause beginning “Since.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation slips are present. For example, “this is causing” begins a new sentence with a lowercase letter, and “affected with various kinds of health difficulties” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. The opening phrase “bring your attention on” also needs a different grammatical construction. Review sentence boundaries, capitalization, and common verb-preposition patterns, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
