Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and identify the main overall patterns: appliance ownership generally rose, while housework time fell. Several key figures are reported accurately, including washing machines at 40% in 1920 and 75% in 2019, and housework declining from 50 to about 10 hours. This meets the task well, with some features described in useful detail. However, there are important inaccuracies: vacuum-cleaner ownership reached 70% in 1960, 90% in 1980, and 100% in 2000, not 90% in 1960 and 100% in 1980. The refrigerator began at about 2%, rather than 0%, and the housework measure is hours, not a percentage. The overview also says washing machines had a “moderate percentage,” which is vague. More precise comparisons and accurate units would strengthen the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing the appliance trends and housework. This makes the main information reasonably easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore,” and “On the other hand.” However, some connections feel mechanical or do not clearly show the relationship between details. The long sequence beginning “Initially washing machine in 1920…” combines several years without clear sentence boundaries, and “by the time” is repeated without a precise reference. Grouping the appliance comparisons more deliberately and using shorter sentences to distinguish rises, falls, and plateaus would improve progression. Check that each pronoun or time reference clearly points to the relevant series or year.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “increased,” “fell slightly,” “surged,” “dramatic increase,” and “decline.” These choices help communicate the broad movements in the charts, and the meaning is generally clear. Some less common expressions are attempted, but several are inaccurate or unnatural in this context: “at peak side by side,” “maxed,” and “depreciating” do not describe chart trends naturally. “Drastic change from 2019” also gives an unclear starting point, while “house work” is better written as “housework.” Aim for precise, conventional chart language and avoid using several different dramatic verbs when a neutral term such as “rose” or “reached” is more accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses linked with “whereas” and “as,” and the overall meaning can usually be understood. However, some sentence structures are difficult to follow because clauses are joined without adequate punctuation. For example, the washing-machine sentence beginning “Initially washing machine in 1920…” runs through several dates and changes, and “the it fell slightly” contains a faulty construction. There are also errors in articles and sentence formation, as in “Initially washing machine” and “number of hours of housework saw.” Use complete, clearly punctuated sentences, and check subject–verb structure and articles. A wider range is present, but more consistent control of these patterns is needed.
