Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the broad trends: appliance ownership generally rises, while weekly housework time falls. You also note that refrigerators start as the least common appliance and later become widespread. However, the response is incomplete: it stops mid-sentence at “To begin with in 1920 wa” and contains only 111 words, below the required 150. As a result, the main figures and comparisons are not adequately reported. For example, the graph shows refrigerators reaching 100% by 1980, vacuum cleaners reaching 100% by 2000, and washing-machine ownership fluctuating slightly rather than rising continuously. The claim that washing machines were the “prominent equipment” in 1920 is also inaccurate, since ownership was higher for washing machines than vacuum cleaners, but the comparison needs clearer wording. Include key figures and complete the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic overall structure, with an opening description followed by an overview, and the response attempts to compare trends. However, the progression is disrupted because the final paragraph begins “To begin with in 1920 wa” and then ends abruptly, leaving the detailed reporting unfinished. The overview also strings several points together with “meanwhile,” “furthermore,” and repeated “In contrast,” so the relationships between ideas are not always clear. For instance, the sentence about refrigerator ownership becoming constant “along with the vacum in 2000” is difficult to follow. Use separate, logically ordered paragraphs for the overview and the main data, and connect comparisons precisely rather than relying on repeated linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt some task-appropriate vocabulary, including “proportion,” “rose significantly,” “constant,” and “declined steadily,” which helps communicate the general trends. However, spelling errors and imprecise word choices are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning harder to follow: “gien,” “fulfiling,” “hosehold,” “referigerator,” “segnificantly,” and “vacum.” Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “electrical equipments” and “the use of all three categories inclined.” Use “appliances” rather than “equipments,” and describe ownership as “the proportion of households owning…” rather than “use.” A more controlled range of accurate trend vocabulary and careful proofreading would make the report clearer and more suitable for an academic summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes both simple statements and attempts at longer, linked sentences, such as the overview beginning “Overall, the use of all three categories…”. However, the longer constructions are often faulty or incomplete, and the range of sentence patterns remains limited. In “In contrast refrigerator was the least used hosehold,” the article before “refrigerator” is missing and the comparison is not grammatically well formed. The opening sentence also has an unclear structure around “compared with the hours spent… per week in a particular country, in period…”. The final clause, “To begin with in 1920 wa,” is incomplete. Aim for complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and use punctuation to separate the overview’s distinct comparisons.
