Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. You have identified the main trends for both the appliance ownership and the time spent on housework. The overview is clear and highlights the inverse relationship between the two sets of data. You have selected key features, such as the peak of refrigerator ownership and the decline in housework hours, and supported these with accurate data points. To reach a higher band, ensure you make more explicit comparisons between the categories, such as noting that as appliance ownership reached saturation, housework time plateaued, rather than just listing the data for each category separately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the appliance data from the housework data. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Similarly', and 'On the contrary' are used effectively to guide the reader through the comparisons. However, the flow could be improved by using more varied linking phrases to connect the sentences within the body paragraphs, as some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information accurately, including terms like 'decreasing trend', 'remained relatively stable', and 'mild fluctuations'. There are some minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'The line graphs depicts' (should be 'depict') and 'The numbers of washing machine' (should be 'number of washing machines'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise academic collocations would enhance the quality of your writing. The range is sufficient to allow for some flexibility in describing the trends shown in the charts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('graphs depicts') and pluralization errors ('numbers of washing machine'). Additionally, there is a minor error in 'the number hours spend' (should be 'number of hours spent'). Despite these errors, the grammar does not impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement and verb forms, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures to demonstrate greater control over your writing.
