Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you identify some trends, such as the increase in appliance ownership and the decrease in housework hours, the analysis is superficial. You do not provide a clear overview of the main trends, and the data points are not accurately reported or compared. The explanation for the trends (e.g., 'city expansion') is speculative and not supported by the provided charts. To improve, ensure you cover all parts of the task, provide a clear summary of the main features, and use the data provided in the charts to support your points rather than external assumptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks a clear structure. There is no paragraphing, and the flow of ideas is disjointed. You rely on repetitive and informal connectors like 'rising and rising' and 'also', which do not effectively link ideas or show logical progression. The lack of proper sentence boundaries and punctuation makes the text difficult to follow. To improve, organize your response into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two body paragraphs detailing specific data. Use a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'in contrast', 'furthermore', and 'consequently' to connect your ideas more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'rising and rising' are used repeatedly, which is not appropriate for an academic report. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'vacumm' instead of 'vacuum', 'advertisment' instead of 'advertisement', and 'moreso' used incorrectly. The word choice is often imprecise, such as 'heard rising' or 'quality product'. To improve, focus on using a variety of verbs to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'soared', 'plummeted', or 'remained stable'. Avoid informal or repetitive phrasing and ensure you use accurate terminology for the data presented.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The grammar is weak, with frequent errors that impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The chart show illustrate'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'was introduce'). The sentence structure is simplistic and often fragmented, lacking the complexity required for a higher band. Many sentences are run-on or lack necessary punctuation, making the text difficult to parse. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and using correct tense forms. Practice writing complete, grammatically accurate sentences before attempting more complex structures.
